an initiative to end sex-trafficking
every woman free, every child in school
The women members are provided regular trainings in running SHG groups, roles and responsibilities of the office bearers, and in formally registering them where they can function as independent groups having their own bank account, avail loans and start small businesses. Through the livelihoods skills programme the women and adolescent girl members are taught production skills, account management and running small enterprises like canteens, jewellery making, stationery items of hand made papers and embroidered bags and scarves. They are then linked to markets. For example, some products have been sold worldwide under the label Made for Survivors to chain stores in the US like the Goody’s Chain stores.
Adult Education: Through the help of universities such as Jamia Millia Islamia, Adult Education Centre (AEC) have been set up in the anti-trafficking units where women are taught basic reading and writing skills and accountancy.
Leadership training: Leadership training is given to members of SHGs and Kishori Mandals. Open Mike sessions are held with expert facilitators to encourage women to articulate their concerns before parliamentarians, policymakers and other public fora. The women and adolescent girl members are encouraged to write about their experiences and views in the monthly newspaper ;The Red Light Despatch published by Apne Aap.
