A red light area

• Kamathipura, Mumbai was the largest red-light area in Asia; it’s a criss cross of 12 lanes between two railway stations. Today Sonagachi, Kolkata is expanding.
• Women and girls are kept locked in small four by four foot rooms, with no windows
• The women are made to service 15-20  men a day for less than USD 1 a day
• They are subjected to rape, physical abuse, torture, violence, repeated abortions
• They are extremely vulnerable to life-threatening diseases like HIV, TB and Hepatitis.
• They were sold, seduced, tricked, duped, coerced or forced into this life of sexual slavery most often by a known and trusted person among their family and friends.
• The trafficker paid less than $100 for them.
