Ruchira Gupta won an Emmy Award [1997] for ‘Outstanding investigative journalism’ for her documentary, 'The Selling of Innocents' which brought forth the trafficking of women and children from the villages of Nepal to the brothels of Mumbai.
She was also honoured with The Abolitionist Award [2007] at the UK House of Lords presented by Lord David Alton, Templeton Foundation and Geneva Global. The award honours Heroes in the Fight Against Modern Slavery.
She Wins Clinton Global Citizen Award in New York, 23rd September 2009. Former President Bill Clinton awarded Ruchira Gupta, President, Apne Aap Women Worldwide, the Third Annual Clinton Global Citizen Award for her work against human trafficking. The award recognizes remarkable individuals for their leadership in improving the lives of people around the globe.
