Celebration of International Women?s Day in centers

 

1. Bhiwandi - a Rangoli programme was organized. 24 women participated in the programme.

 

2. Subhash Camp- Mrs. Lisa McKean was the guest of honour on the occasion. Chalk making and

Mehandi exhibition was organized. The programme included, a play, songs by the students, dance

performance and speech on women?s day by  girls. Women shared their experiences and problems with the audience.

 

Sit and draw and Annual Day Celebration

 

A sit and draw competition on the topic ?My Kolkata My Maidan,? and annual Day event for the women and children of Topsia and Khidderpore centers, was held at the Garden of Lata Bajoria on 10th February ?05. The gathering included well-wishers, children and Apne Aap team members of Khidderpore, Topsia and home office. The chief guest at the event was Mrs. Lee Sibley, wife of the U.S. Counsel General, and the guest of honour was Ratnottama Sengupta, the art director of TOI. Five drawings, three for best drawings and two for overall clear concept, were given prizes. Later trustees announced special prizes. A short cultural programme was put up by the children of both the centers, which included a dance recital, a mime on cutting down of trees and its consequences, a group dance, a recitation, and a skit titled ?My Kolkata My Maidan.? 

 

Celebration of Republic Day in Delhi, Bhiwandi and Forbesgunge

 

Speech by the women, songs, skits and mimicry were organized at the Bhiwandi center, Mumbai. Ms. Ruchira Gupta, the Executive Director of A2W2, was a guest at the programme.

 

On the occasion of Republic Day, the women from the Forbesgunge community took out a rally, venturing out for first time in their lives. The children sang patriotic songs. Sweets were distributed.

 

Dance and songs  were organized in the Subhas Camp center by the women, children and girls

on the occasion of Republic Day.

 

MK Raina Play

 

A premiere of the play, Buhe Burian directed by eminent director M. K Raina, on 28th December 2004, at Hotel Hyatt Regency, Kolkata, as part of annual fund raising programme.

 

Rallies in Delhi and Forbesgunge and Kolkata

 

Three rallies have been organized by Subhas Camp centre, within the community, emphasizing health, hygiene and literacy. A public health hearing in collaboration with other organizations working in the area has also been organized.

 

On Republic Day, the women from the Forbesgunge community took out the first rally. The rally of women and children was held at the Apne Aap School.

 

120 women and girls participated in the human chain organized by West Bengal Campaign Co-ordinating Committee during the 16 Days of Activism to protest Violence against women and girls on World AIDS Day.

 

Intersect Workshop

 

An Intersect workshop was organised on 16th September 2004 at R.K Mission, Kolkata.  The organization aimed to form an Intersect Coalition in West Bengal of organizations, individuals, coalitions, NGOs, CBOs, grass root groups, and networks working in women?s movement and those working to combat HIV/AIDS.

 

Workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility: ?Addressing Trafficking in Persons?

 

A one day workshop on ?Corporate Social Responsibility: Addressing Trafficking in Persons? was organized jointly by Apne Aap Women Worldwide, the Consulate General of the United States of America, Kolkata and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Eastern Region, at the Hotel Hyatt Regency, Kolkata, on 19th March 2004. The workshop was a pioneering attempt to forge an alliance between the private sector and grassroots NGOs to end human trafficking. 85 corporate houses and 73 NGOs and Media persons attended the workshop.

 

Exhibition on HIV/AIDS in Kolkata, Mumbai and Siliguri

 

We hosted a unique international photographic traveling exhibition in Mumbai, Kolkata, Medinipore and Siliguri that was attended by the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra and West Bengal, media, grassroot workers, and people from NGOs and CBOs. The photographs in the exhibit document the social and emotional impact of the HIV epidemic and illuminate positive human responses to this world crisis. A film festival was hosted in conjunction with the exhibition that included panel discussions and workshops by experts in the area of sex-trafficking and HIV/AIDS and people living with HIV/AIDS. The exhibitions were launched in April and May of 2003.
